Badrinath
The Sacred Abode of Lord Vishnu
Situated at an altitude of 3,300 meters in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, Badrinath is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in India. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, it is a vital part of the Char Dham Yatra and the Chota Char Dham circuit. Nestled between the Nar and Narayan mountain ranges, the town is set against the stunning backdrop of the Neelkanth Peak.
Religious Significance
Badrinath is considered one of the 108 Divya Desams, holy shrines dedicated to Lord Vishnu. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu meditated here, while Goddess Lakshmi took the form of a Badri tree to shield him from the elements, earning the deity the name Badri Vishal.
The site is also associated with the Pandavas, who are believed to have passed through Badrinath on their way to heaven. Adi Shankaracharya re-established the Badrinath temple in the 8th century to promote Hinduism.

Badrinath Temple
Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the temple’s architecture is a blend of traditional and modern styles. The sanctum houses a 1-meter-tall black stone idol of Lord Vishnu, depicted in a meditative posture. The temple remains open from May to November, closing for winter when the idol is moved to Joshimath.
Tapt Kund
A natural hot water spring near the temple where pilgrims take a dip before entering the shrine. The water is believed to have therapeutic properties.
Neelkanth Peak
Known as the “Queen of the Garhwal Himalayas,” the peak offers a majestic view, especially at sunrise. It is a haven for trekkers and nature enthusiasts.
Charan Paduka
A rock with imprints believed to be Lord Vishnu’s footprints, located 3 kilometers from Badrinath. The site offers panoramic views of the valley.
Mana Village
The last Indian village near the Tibetan border, located 3 kilometers from Badrinath. It is home to the Vyas Gufa (where Ved Vyasa is believed to have composed the Mahabharata) and Ganesh Gufa.
Vasudhara Falls
A beautiful waterfall located 8 kilometers from Badrinath. The cascading water is said to bless only the pure-hearted.

Autumn (September to October): Clear skies and pleasant temperatures.
The temple remains closed during winter (November to April) due to heavy snowfall.
